A Wimpy Breakfast after 2 1/2 years!

For many years Wimpy has been one of my favourite restaurants. It still is the only problem is that I live on another continent now! I am writing this review and asking me what is so special about this restaurant? You can find a good breakfast basically at any restaurant.

My answer is simple. If you already know what you want to eat before they even ask you, then it is a sign of a good breakfast! Since they’ve introduced the “Cheese griller breakfast” I don’t even look at anything else. This is the key ingredient of a successful restaurant. I love the “Cheese Griller breakfast”; somebody else likes the National Breakfast. We all have our favourite items from the menu and we stick to it because they prepare it so well.

On my recent visit to South Africa I had my first breakfast at Wimpy. The waiter greeted us with a warm South African smile and she brought my food exactly the way I like it!

Wimpy is not only about the food, it is an experience. Families, young people, single people and all different kind of people relax in this friendly atmosphere. They offer a wide variety of food and beverages. The menu has a variety of breakfasts (all 100% meat), burgers, steak, fish, chicken and a wide range of coffee and other beverages. They have the best milk shakes!

They have play areas for children, cater for birthday parties and have take-aways.

The first Wimpy opened their doors in 1967 in South Africa. It is a major franchise in South Africa. You will find them anywhere in shopping centres and at Service stations next to National routes.

Definitely worth a try when you visit South Africa.

I have been fortunate to have done quite a bit of travelling. By heart I am an adventurer and I love exploring new places, cultures and food. Travelling can become stressful and expensive. Over the years I have learnt to travel as cost effective as possible, simply by travelling more clever. Nelmitravel.com is a Adventure and Budget Travel site where I review Airlines, Accommodation, Transport, Restaurants and give helpful travel information.

  1. The name "Wimpy" was inspired by the character of J. Wellington Wimpy from the Popeye cartoons created by E. C. Segar. They specialize in burgers not in breakfast.Wimpy is the brand name of a chain of fast-food hamburger restaurants based in the United Kingdom. It is well known for its burger known as the Bender, which is actually a frankfurter sausage and not a hamburger patty.

  2. I remember we had 'Wimpy' in the Netherlands when I was a girl ('a few years ago' ;)) I'm sure it was fast food, I remember the location in Breda. I guess it was the same chain. Nostalgia :))

  3. Hi NelietaJy laat my darem nou waterbek na die Wimpies van ouds!Unfortunately, Wimpy is not the place it used to be. From the time the Steers group took control, quality and quantity went down and prices went up. Even the size of the plates and coffee cups were reduced. In memory it still is one of the few good family eateries, but in reality, I now only see the inside of a Wimpy when invited.Long live the memory of the good old Wimpy.Faure.

  4. I know Wimpy when i was in Aruba a long time ago. Then we found it a fine restaurant. When i was in Aruba a couple of years ago and passed wimpy, the memory of long time ago passed by. 🙂

Thank you for visiting. Have a fabulous day!
