Buenos Aires graffiti and Street art.

Buenos Aires Graffiti has become a great tourist attraction. “Art comes in many different forms”, I was once told. I agree. Who would have imagined that graffiti on walls would become a popular form of art? When I think of graffiti on walls I have this vivid image of a couple of punks with spray cans, attacking an innocent white wall and then running away! Maybe I have watched too many movies!

When you first arrive in the city you might notice the Buenos Aires graffiti but not pay it a lot of attention. No doubt after a couple of days in the Capital it will grab your attention. In a good way! Artists express themselves, lovers declare their love, football fans pay tribute to their favourite team and even political parties use the free space to advertise their political slogans. Artists are sending a message to the people of Buenos Aires. This is art for the people done by the people. They embrace it.

You will even find graffiti on cars! Nothing is spared!

Street art tour in Buenos Aires.

In fact, graffiti is becoming so popular that a company who call themselves “GraffitiMundo” have set up tours where you could admire the art and even meet the artist in his studio! How cool is that?

This tour started recently and I haven’t been on one. But I have had the pleasure of admiring the art in different parts of the city. You cannot miss it. It is colourful, funny and definitely sends a message.

  1. I have seen these on walls but not painted on vehicles. This is new for me, yep why not admire it for the great creatively.

  2. Nelieta,I absolutely love graffiti art..Great story with kiss butt photos xoxoxHere is my momentFinding One's Way

  3. This is really amazing. When I first saw graffiti art, I had the same mindset that they took a spray can and sprayed all over the building wall and ran away, but then when you can see the art in it..I realized that it is really good. It can really grow on you.

  4. Got that image of punks with spray cans in my head too! I saw a few graffiti works in The Netherlands and they're beautiful as well. Will probably check out that tour when we get to visit the country someday!

  5. Oh Nelieta…you know for most of us here…that isn't art but rubbish and vandalism. But I've seen quite a few that really are artistic. The government put some wall parts especially for kids who are great at poster art to do their artwork there instead of vandalizing the walls…I saw similar streets along the railway stations in Italy as well as in their trains. Some works are great but others aren't… but it's really interesting…hmmm…

  6. The only graffiti I have seen so far in Sydney were the eyesore ones on some dodgy streets. But it would be nice to see graffiti on designated walls where talented artists can truly express their creativity.

  7. We have a great place in San Francisco with a similar testament to art. It is indeed art, not the traditional sort, but some of it is truly beautiful. It is as they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

  8. Hi Claire, yes the graffiti on dodgy streets are definitely not art. This however I like a lot and it beautifies not destroys!

  9. Hi Sheril, that is very interesting and I didn´t know it! I will Google and read up about it! Thank you for sharing!

  10. Hi Brenda, that is wonderful to know. I know this is not the traditional type of art and many people might not like it (my husband included) but I like it 🙂

  11. I love street art like that! Sadly, in my country we only have vandals. They just spray profanities and anti-government slogans on walls, not colorful art like in BA (Buenos Aires – Big Apple).

  12. one man's art is another man's trash.. comes to mind.. it sounds like Brazil is handling it well. I was in a small city in Italy a few years ago and saw graffiti written on the walls of buildings that had stood for centuries..I did not think it was art…

  14. Hi Jim, I think you refer to Argentina not Brazil..hehe! Yes they sure do have it under control. I must admit I would hate to see graffiti on historical buildings. That is just sickening. I agree that is not art at all. Pure vandalism and people with no respect for history.

  15. Hi Claire, yes the graffiti on dodgy streets are definitely not art. This however I like a lot and it beautifies not destroys!

  16. Hi Carlos, you are more than welcome! I enjoy reading your blog and it is always good to share links. Have a great Sunday.Nelieta

  17. Hi Melissa, coming from a great artist like you I can just imagine how this type of art must be getting to you! I think it is a wise move to dedicate areas for these type of artists to express themselves.Thank you for your wonderful and insightful comment! Hugs xxx

  18. Hi Gay that must have been interesting. Been to the Netherlands twice but I cannot recall seeing any..I guess I wasn´t looking 🙂 Yes please do and come to say hello to me!

  19. Hi Thosewerethedays 🙂 Yes that was honestly my impression but now I see it in a different light. There are punks out there who simply go out to destroy and that I don´t like. But designated walls and a talented artist can make a big difference :)Thank you for visiting my blog!

  20. Hi Jessica, glad you liked it! Some of them are really good! Next time when I am in Buenos Aires I will take more photos 🙂

Thank you for visiting. Have a fabulous day!
