I like walking. The only problem is that I don’t like to get up early in the morning. It takes a lot of self discipline and encouragement. I also need to remember to charge my camera battery the night before. Last night it was a mission again to find my sony camera battery charger. Luckily I did and I was set to go.
Walking here is such a refreshing experience. There is almost no pollution and the air is crisp and clear. I fill my lungs with the fresh air and then set off. I take a different route every day because I don’t like routine. The routes are not marked and you have to use your own initiative. That is exciting! But what is even more exciting is that I discover something new every day. In fact I make a point to see something new. Even if it is something very small. I try to turn every walk into something magical. I talk to myself. I think about the things that I need to do for the day. I get excited when I see something beautiful. I count my blessings.
One of my favourite routes always leeds to the river. The sound of the river soothes my soul. Early in the morning it is very quiet. All I can hear is the sound of the water and the singing of the birds. Nothing else. I do some stretch exercises and then I cross the river. Now crossing the river is an experience in itself. See, there is no bridge. You have to take off your shoes and walk on the cement blocks. But some cement blocks have left their safe haven and all that is left is an empty space. You have to step into the water and then onto the next available block. Fun?? Not so much when the water is cold!!!
I smell the fresh morning air. I listen to the sound of nature. It makes me want to throw my arms in the air and embrace life. I drag my feet through the dry leaves. I giggle. I feel like a child.
Slow down and enjoy life.
It’s not only the scenery you miss by going too fast –
you also miss the sense
of where you are going and why.
