The Tower Lighthouse in the Fishing Village of Kaliningrad.

One of the most recognizable buildings in the Fishing Village of Kaliningrad, is the Lighthouse. It can be seen from Kant Island and the Pregel river. It is part of the Old Complex called Pregolya and at the bottom of the tower are many restaurants and coffee shops.

This used to be a harbour for small vessels and had a few houses. Unfortunately I don’t know the exact history of the Lighthouse but I will ask my mother-in-law because she came to Kaliningrad just after World War II.

Our first visit to the Lighthouse and climbing to the top of the tower.

The entrance to the Lighthouse can be found at the back of the complex. The entrance fee is 100 Rubles and must be paid before you enter the Lighthouse. The height of the tower is 31 meters and there are 133 steps to climb. It is a narrow and steep vintage staircase.

As you make your way to the top of the tower, you pass an exhibition of Murano glass products by local craftsmen, a restaurant and coffee shop. From here you can enjoy a beautiful view of Kant Island, the Konigsberg cathedral and the Pregel river. The Coffee shop is located on the third floor of the tower.

Interesting exhibitions and souvenirs.

Painting exhibitions on display at the third floor and we had an interesting chat to the lady working at the Glass Exhibition.

The Observation deck offers a panoramic view of the city and you can see Kant Island, The Fishing Village and the House of Soviets. We also saw the construction that is currently in progress for the new soccer stadium.

The Bird of Happiness is located at the Observation desk. Locals belief it will bring good luck if you give the bird a rub. Leave a coin, rub the egg and make a wish.  We left with a wish.

You can climb to the top of the tower but on this level you are not able to go out. You can still enjoy beautiful views through the big glass windows.

As you make your way down to the bottom, you will pass through a souvenir shop that sell local food preserves. It is well worth a visit.

When you leave the lighthouse, you will find two statues. One of them is a lady, standing by a door and the other one is a sculpture of a skipper, with a monkey on his shoulder, sitting on a bench. People like to take photos here.

We had a great time climbing to the top of the lighthouse tower and when in Kaliningrad, do give it a visit.
