Sundays are quiet in Buenos Aires. I still find it unbelievable how this busy city could just go quiet. This is normally the day when people go out with their family and friends to enjoy a relaxing day.So what do the people of Buenos Aires do on a lovely Sunday morning?

Porteños love roller blading, cycling and jogging in one of the many parks in the city or at Puerto Madero.

Roller blading in Buenos Aires

Andrey and I have been to a lot of these places on a Sunday when we were still living in Buenos Aires. We didn´t go roller blading because I think I would kill myself but to photograph people and soak up the sun.

What I enjoy most is to find a place where the people don´t notice me. Then I start watching them through my lens. You might call me a stalker and maybe I am, but I thoroughly enjoy watching the people. When they see me the moment is gone and I have to find a new target.

People are very entertaining to watch especially when they roller blade or cycle. The guys normally help to adjust the skates of the ladies and I don´t blame them because they get to see beautiful legs! There are a lot of concentration but also laughter amongst friends. It looks like wonderful exercise too and is not limited to a specific age.

Street skating is very popular in Buenos Aires. A large group of people get together and enjoy this social activity on the streets. Street skating is also very popular in cities like Paris, Munich, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Los Angeles, New York, London and Frankfurt.

So if you find yourself in Buenos Aires and you feel like joining the crowds for some nice roller blading but find yourself without skates, don´t worry. You can also rent skates at some of the parks. A fun way to enjoy a lazy Sunday morning or afternoon. A fun way to explore Buenos Aires!

I have been fortunate to have done quite a bit of travelling. By heart I am an adventurer and I love exploring new places, cultures and food. Travelling can become stressful and expensive. Over the years I have learnt to travel as cost effective as possible, simply by travelling more clever. 1. I've not been to Buenos Aires, but it's on my list. What I like about coming to your blog is your insight, it gives another POV not always found in the travel books. I think I've not done enough traveling in my life, but I do try to squeeze it in when I can. I love this pictures… (I'd not trust myself on roller blades, unless they came with training wheels.)

  2. Hi Brenda, Argentina is a great country to travel. I think a person living here has a better perception of a place than the guide book for example. This is a fun way to explore the city and see what the people are doing. Ps. No they don´t come with training wheels but some have six..LOL!

  3. There are no skateboards or rollerskates allowed on the sidewalks along the main street in my town. I've always thought that was kinda sad.

  4. Hi Rachel, it is also not allowed in Buenos Aires in the city. But the parks are open and also close to Puerto Madero especially on Sundays. I think the authorities have given up trying to bust the people 🙂 I think it adds a great atmosphere and they are not molesting anybody..just want to have a good time 🙂

  5. Great post. I enjoyed the pic of the person catching a ride by skating and holding onto the back of a bicycle! On one of my first dates with my husband we decided to take up roller blading together. I had never done it before. Well, for the first time roller blading my husband chose a trail that was probably a 60 degree incline! It was awful! I fell too many times lol I felt like a stunt double! I'm all for the old style roller skates! 🙂

  6. Hi Jessica, what a great story of your early first dates! What fun but I don´t think I would appreciate the 60 degree decline! But it is funny :)What fun!!! We did a lot of roller blading when I was a child. We made turns because we our parents couldn´t afford to buy roller baldes for all the children…good old times 🙂

  7. I love your sneaky pictures Nelieta – they tell us such tales. I would never have the guts to roller blade…and not when there's a photographer around for sure ;).
