Train to Tigre from Retiro in Buenos Aires.

Tigre Delta just outside Buenos Aires is a very popular place to visit for the day. There are many ways to reach this beautiful place and in my opinion the quickest is by train that leaves from Retiro train station.

Purchasing tickets to Tigre Delta at Retiro Station.

Tickets can be purchased at the ticket office inside Retiro train station. Unfortunately I do not have the updated prices but it is not expensive.  Trains have recently been changed and they are new and in good condition. The train makes 15 quick stops at various platforms. Stay on the train until you reach the last stop. Platforms are indicated on an electronic board.

Many travel agencies and hostels offers excursions to Tigre at a hefty price. If you like to be part of a group or if you are scared of the language then book an excursion. For the more adventurous traveller it is best to buy a ticket and make your own way. Even with no or limited Spanish you will be able to purchase a ticket and board the train.

The trains are very busy during peak hours and you might battle to find a seat going to Tigre. It is not uncommon on the train to have people selling goods or asking for money. Most of them have a very colourful story to tell but that is the fun part of using public transport in Argentina.

Trains leave on regular intervals and if you would like to see a timetable then you could visit this link. A word of caution: The train terminal is very busy and I suggest that you keep an eye on your bags. Retiro bus and train terminals are not safe areas.
