Enhance your experience of Barcelona with Bitemojo.
Barcelona is a cosmopolitan city where food lovers can marvel in medieval Catalan cuisine. Bitemojo offers food walking tours where you can taste and pleasure your palates whilst enjoying interesting information along the way. On a recent visit to Barcelona, we booked one of the Bitemojo tours, eager to sample medieval gourmet.
What is Bitemojo?
Personally I am not very fond of organized tours and we like to do things on our own and in our own time. Bitemojo is a Smart phone application that caters for both Android and IOS. Once the application is downloaded, select from one of the many tours in different cities around the world. Each tour comes with detailed information for example distance, duration and what bites you will be able to taste.
We decided on the “El Born Food Tour”, mainly because the bites looked delicious and the history of the neighborhood, interesting. We were eager to learn more about the sites and the food that originated from this neighborhood.
Once the tour is purchased, it can be found under My Bite Tours.
The El Born Food Tour and our experience.
This tour is brand new and we were one of the first people to try it. We were asked to be patient as we might experience some hiccups a long the way. Luckily nothing major happened. Two of the bites were not available as the restaurants were closed for restoration but the unclaimed bites were converted into credits, which we used at another place. We actually still have credits left which can be used in other cities and are valid for six months.
Nougat or Orxata at Torrons La Campana.
Our first stop took us to Torrons La Campana. The lady was very friendly and offered us a choice between a glass of Orxata or a piece of Nougat. I tried the Nougat and Andrey the Orxata. Orxata is a sweet beverage that is made of ground tiger-nuts called chufas, blended with water and sugar. It is refreshing and high in minerals and vitamins.
The Nougat took me a little by surprise because I am used to a soft nougat, This nougat was a little bit hard but very tasty. Nougat is a great source of fiber and give a lot of energy. That is exactly what we needed because we just started our walking tour.
Homemade croquette with caña.
Next up, the lovely Casa Nova where we tasted a traditional tapa called a croquette and a small glass of beer that is called a caña. Croquettes are bread-crumbed and fried rolls of leftover food. They are delicious and very popular in Barcelona. Tapa bars can be found everywhere. This dish came with a lot of interesting information with the Bitemojo application.
Gelato at Gocce di Latte.
The Gelato at Gocce di Latte, must have been one of our favorite bites. Gelato is the best ice cream that I have tasted. The Gelato was excellent and it is made fresh there. Did you know that the Gelato machine was invented by an Italian fisherman?
This lovely shop had so many different flavors to choose from. I decided to try chocolate and Tiramisu and Andrey tried the Cheesecake. We were not disappointed and sat on a bench outside the shop and enjoyed our delicious Gelato.
Sliced ham and crisps at La Boqeria Market in Barcelona.
I mentioned before that two of the restaurants were closed and we exchanged our bites at another eatery. La Boqeria is one of the most famous markets in the city and this is where we found the sliced salami and crisps. You absolutely have to taste the ham when in Barcelona.
Coffee or tea at Cafes El Magnifico.
Andrey is a coffee lover and the coffee at Cafes El Magnifico did not disappoint. In fact, he drank my coffee too because I found it to be too strong. The coffee was definitely a highlight for him. Cafes El Magnifico is famous in Barcelona and visited by many tourists and locals during the day. I found it to be too crowded and the staff did not have time to explain the different types of coffee to us. We found more personal attention from the Gelato and Nougat shops.
Our experience of using Bitemojo in Barcelona.
Bitemojo enhances the experience of local food, combined with interesting information. We loved the fact that we could do it in our own time and that credits could be converted for other bites. The tour is flexible and credits stay valid for 6 months after purchase. I need to stress that Internet connection is very important. Without Internet connection the tour would not be possible. It was a fun experience and we will definitely try it again. Thank you Bitemojo for a great application!
