The AeroExpress train in Moscow.

Before we left for Russia (2012) I came across information about the Aeroexpress speed train that links Domodedovo Airport to Moscow city.

At the time I didn’t have any first hand information available so I decided to write a separate article about how the Aeroexpress train works after our visit. It is in fact a very comfortable and affordable way to get into Moscow city.

Leaving Domodedovo Airport to get into Moscow with the Aeroexpress Train.

Domodedovo Airport is marked and signs to the train, clearly visible. The ticket office can be found inside the Airport terminal. There are also electronic ticket machines available where you can buy your tickets with a credit card. Trains depart every 30 minutes to the city.

After you have purchased your ticket make your way to the train platform. You will be issued with a bar coded ticket and this you have to insert into one of the electronic machines. It is the only way to get access to the platform. After you have inserted your ticket, the doors will open and you can enter the platform.

Please note: The train is very busy. If you have a lot of luggage, it is difficult to manoeuvre through the gates.

The train doesn’t make any stops and goes directly to Paveletskiy station in Moscow.

The train is brand new and very comfortable. They do not check your ticket again and it can be put away. Don’t dispose of it because you will need it again to leave the terminal. Most business people use the Aeroexpress train because they avoid the busy Moscow traffic. Staff will come round and offer beverages and something to eat if you feel peckish.

Journey time is 45 minutes.

Leaving Paveletskiy station to Domodedovo:

Purchase your ticket directly at the station. We battled to find the ticket office because it wasn’t marked properly. Allow for extra time if you are unfamiliar with Paveletskiy station. Exit the ticket area and you will find the platform where you will get the Aeroexpress train.

How mush does a ticket on the Aeroexpress train cost?

A ticket for adults cost 460 Rubles one way. Children aged 5 to 7 receive a discount. There is no cost for children under 5 years old.

Can you buy tickets in advance and online?

Yes, it is possible. You can purchase Aeroexpress tickets in advance on the company’s website 90 days before the journey. A ticket is valid on the date specified thereon. Select the parameters of your trip, including the date, fare, and number of tickets. Agree to the E Ticketing Terms and Conditions and proceed to Select Payment Method.
