Renting a car in Koh Samui, Thailand.
A couple of days into our holiday we decided to rent a Jeep to explore the island of Koh Samui. Car Rental in Koh Samui is simple and very easy. We informed the owner of the Bungalows where we were staying the day before and she organised everything on our behalf. It worked out much cheaper to rent a car for the day because you definitely get ripped off when you use the public transport, especially when you want to travel longer distances.
Renting a car in Koh Samui.
Timely Arrival: Our Jeep made its punctual debut the following morning. Accompanied by my friend’s passport as a security measure, no upfront deposit was necessary. Reflecting on the complexities of car rentals abroad, I couldn’t help but smirk and shake my head. This hassle-free experience was replicated when we opted for scooters, where despite the absence of a deposit requirement, accountability for damages remained, with our passports held as collateral.
Efficient Fuel Consumption: Upon receiving the Jeep, we noted its tank wasn’t full. However, a mere 1000 Baht replenished it, providing us with two days of travel. At less than 40 Baht per liter, fuel costs remained economical throughout our journey.
Compact Yet Capable: Despite initial apprehensions over its size, the Jeep proved surprisingly robust. Strategically arranging ourselves, we accommodated all five passengers, with some creative seating arrangements.
Smooth Uphill Journey: Powered by a formidable engine, the Jeep effortlessly navigated uphill terrain, effortlessly pulling us along.
Comfort Amidst Bumps: Personally, opting for the back seat due to car sickness, I found solace in the wind’s alleviating effect. However, comfort was compromised by the vehicle’s compactness, with every road bump distinctly felt. It’s advisable to bring along a cushion for added comfort.
A wonderful way to explore the island!
Contact information for renting a car in Koh Samui.
The Jeep was provided by Golden Garuda and they can be contacted at 077-458149 (Koh Samui). The cost was 800 Baht or $28 per day. I am sure you can deal with this once you are at the island as there are many signs indicating car and Jeep rental available. The only thing you need to negotiate is the price.

What a neat blog you have with so much information and hands on perspective! I get car sick too. Have you tried focusing on the road, just in front of the car, so that your eyes stay fixed? That always helps me.
Thank you so much! All people travelling need information at one point and if I can help then I am happy 🙂 Isn`t it terrible to get car sick? I have tried everything and now I am taking tablets whenever I know I am going to hit the road. I must admit it does help if you focus on the road. The problem is when I look sideways to speak to somebody then it hits me really bad!
Thanks for the visit!
Great advice! I am heading to Thailand soon and will keep this information in case I want to rent a jeep. It sounds like fun.
