Immanuel Kant the famous German Philosopher.
Immanuel Kant (1724-1804), the famous German philosopher, lived most of his life in Kaliningrad or the former Königsberg in Russia. His final resting place, close to the Cathedral, is open for visitors. He studied at the University in Kaliningrad and later became the Rector.
Why is the work of Immanuel Kant important to this day?
To this day he remains one of the great modern thinkers because he developed a philosophy that completely reinterpreted human knowledge. He wrote some of his best work in 1775.
Kant is best known for his transcendental idealist philosophy that time and space are not materially real but merely the ideal a priori condition of our internal intuition.
You will find his final resting place against the wall of the Gothic Cathedral.
Russian newly-wed tradition.
People put fresh flowers and bouquets close to the tomb. You can often see flowers at other war memorials around the city. It is tradition for newly-weds to pick a statue and leave fresh flowers at the feet of fallen soldiers or heros. What a wonderful tradition.

“Two things fill my mind with ever-increasing wonder and awe, the more often and the more intensely the reflection dwells on them: the starry heavens above me and the moral law within me”.

- His work, “On Perpetual Peace” is cited as an inspiration for the League of Nations (later United Nations).
