Lamai View-Point in Koh Samui
It was our last morning in Koh Samui and we decided to hike up to the Lamai viewpoint not very far from our Bungalows. From Sunrise Bungalows it was only a short walk through the Lamai Market.
Early one morning I tried to get up there to watch the sunrise but it was closed until 9 am. What a pity because you have a beautiful view of Lamai beach and the interior of Koh Samui. In hindsight, I think they also close it for security purposes because people have fallen over the cliff before.
Where to get your ticket to the Lamai-view point?
There is a small reception desk where you get your ticket. The price is 10 Baht and when I asked her for a ticket (I was under the impression that you have to show the ticket to somebody) she laughed and wrote 10 Baht on a piece of paper. It is obviously not how they do things in Koh Samui.
There is a narrow stairway that leads to the top of the lookout point. Be careful because the stones can get slippery when wet. It is not a difficult climb but I do recommend comfortable shoes.
The view from the top is breathtaking. We could see the bungalows where we were staying and Lamai beach. A mist was hanging over the mountains and hills and it was ideal for taking photos.
If you are looking for a nice view-point in Koh Samui then this is one of the places that you have to visit. Don`t go too early or too late because it will be closed.
How to get to the Lamai-View Point?
There is a sign in the road that indicates the way to the view-point. You have to park in the parking area before the Lamai Market and then walk down to Grandmother`s rock. The entrance to the view-point is to your left when you look back at the market. There is a desk next to the sign `toilets` where you can purchase your ticket.
I am including a video clip that I took from the view-point.
