Cuevas del Drach is one of Mallorca’s main tourist attractions. Translated into English, it means Dragon Caves. Situated on the east coast of Mallorca, in the town of Porto Cristo and remarkable. History of the Cuevas del Drach.
These beautiful caves were already known during the Middle Ages. In 1880 they explored the caves and again 6 years later. In 1896 E.A. Martel discovered the lake and they named it after him. In 1935, the site got developed to cater for tourists. The site boasts a new entrance, building paths, and electric lighting.
It can get hot and humid inside the caves – please take note if you are suffering from a medical condition. Humidity is around 80% and temperature at 21°C.
How to get to Porto Cristo from Palma?
If you are staying in Palma, you will have to make your way to Porto Cristo – on the other side of the island. There are a couple of ways to get there. The easiest is to book a tour. They will take you directly to the cave and you don’t need to worry about buses or entrance tickets. The tour cost more or less 40 Euros per person.
The other option is to do this independently. Unfortunately, it takes a little bit longer as you need to switch buses and also work on the bus schedule. Local buses can take from 47 to 96 minutes, depending on traffic.
