The Reclining Buddha at the Wat Pho Temple.
The Wat Pho Temple is the largest temple in Bangkok and famous for its huge, golden reclining Buddha statue. The Reclining Buddha (Phra Buddhasaiyas) is located behind the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. It also hosts more Buddha images than any other temple in Thailand.
An exquisite statue.
This exquisite Buddha measures 46 meters long and his body is covered in gold plating. The feet are 3 meters long and decorated in mother-of-pearl illustrations of “laksanas” or characteristics of the Buddha. The eyes are also decorated in mother-of-pearl. Did I mention that it is 15 meters high? The statue was created as part of Rama III’s restoration that took place between 1824 to 1851.
The largest reclining Buddha in Bangkok.
This Buddha is the largest in Bangkok. The first time when I saw it, I was speechless. I remember trying to take a photo of the statue as a whole but couldn’t fit it in because it was so big. The face of the Buddha is beautiful and so peaceful. I admired it from all angles and was astounded at the details on the statue.
Visiting the Buddha should be on your list of places to visit when in Bangkok.
