Motorbike and Scooter rental in Palma de Mallorca with Mallorca Vintage Motors.

A neighbour who lived 9 years in Mallorca advised us to rent a motorbike or scooter. She said it was easy to rent and the best way to explore the island. It took me less than 5 minutes to find a rental company on the Internet and that is how we ended up renting with Mallorca Vintage Motors.

Let me tell you more about the process and why I agree with her. The best way to explore the island is with a scooter and we will do it again.

Why renting a scooter or motorbike when in Mallorca?

We underestimated the size of Palma de Mallorca. It is not a small island and with limited time, impossible to see everything. Vintage Motors offers guided tours but we decided to explore the island on our own. Maybe in hindsight, it would have been better to book a tour. We would have had the opportunity to see more places.

Palma de Mallorca is popular among bikers. There are endless opportunities to explore every nook and cranny of the island. It is also an economical option and in two days we did not use a full tank of gas. Another thing to keep in mind is the number of tourists. We were in Palma de Mallorca just before the high season started and it was busy but relatively quiet. When the mad rush starts, the number of cars causes traffic jams and delays. A motorcycle or scooter offers more flexibility and freedom to maneuver through traffic.

Andrey and our 300cc Vespa scooter.

Did I mention that they deliver scooters to the hotel? That was a major advantage as we did not have to travel into the city center to collect the scooter. The day when we checked out, we simply left the keys and helmets at the reception desk and they picked it up from the hotel. We saved a lot of time.

More about the rental process and what to expect.

Mallorca Vintage Motors offers a large variety of scooters and motorbikes. They range from a standard 50cc scooter to a beast, like the Harley Davidson, 1200 cc. We settled on a 300 cc Vespa GTS Automatic. It was a good choice and the scooter was very powerful. It is important to read the specifications before you book. We needed a scooter for two people and with two helmets. Storage space was also important. The Vespa 300 cc had a top case and additional storage space underneath the seat.

This model is ideal for long distances and has a backrest, which is very comfortable. If you are a small person with not a lot of strength or an inexperienced driver, I do not suggest this class. Take something smaller and less powerful.

Third party insurance is included in the rental price as well as road assistance, unlimited kilometers and all taxes. In addition and optional is an excess damage waiver of 3€ per day.

You have to be older than 23 years to rent the scooter and need an A2 or A license. Our Argentine license was sufficient.

Scooters and motorbikes can be rented for 24 hours or up to 7 days and more. Prices range from 20€ per day up to 85€ per day.

Booking a scooter online is very easy. Select the location, Mallorca and date of pickup and dropoff. Choose your scooter or motorbike in the next screen and complete the details. They charge a deposit and you receive a confirmation via email. The balance is payable in cash or credit card when the scooter or motorbike is delivered or picked up.

Our experience with the Vespa scooter in Palma de Mallorca.

Andrey drove the scooter most of the time. I found it to be too heavy and a little bit difficult to handle. It was a lot of fun and we enjoyed the experience. It offered a lot of flexibility and we could quickly maneuver into small spaces. The backrest was super comfortable for me. The only thing that I did not like was the feet rests at the back. I did not find them comfortable at all and my legs got tired. Driving on the highways in Palma de Mallorca is quite challenging. They have fast lanes and unintentionally we ended up in the fast lane and people hooted at us. I mentioned before that we underestimated the size of the island. We thought it would be possible to drive along the coastline but it was not. We ended up on the highway many times and got totally lost! This was funny and stressful at the same time.

I found the scooter difficult to handle. It looks small in the photo but was quite big.

I do suggest to plan before renting a scooter. We did not have a GPS and did not read up about the layout of the island. A guided tour is not a bad idea but could be limited in terms of freedom. Contact Mallorca Vintage Motors directly on their website:https://www.mallorcavintage.com/
