Palacio Ferreyra in Cordoba Argentina.
Palacio Ferreyra is a beautiful palace and also home to the Museo Superior de Bellas Artes EVITA, was built in 1916. The palace owner, Dr. Martin Ferreyra (1858 – 1918) wanted this palace to be build in the French Classicism style if the 17th and 18th century.
He was inspired by the Kessler Hotel, a Parisian building of the early 20th century. French architect Ernst-Paul Sanson designed the Palace and the engineer in charge of the project was Carlos Agote. A firm called Krieger, based in Paris, was did a splendid job with the interior decoration. They did a splendid job. Many people have compared the interior design to a style similar of Luis XIV.
Interior of the Palace.
The most impressive part of the palace is the Entrance Hall. It has a grand staircase and wrap around balcony that reveals the art works of the building. The building has largely been redone over the years. It now has elevators and a cowhide-covered staircase. The entrance hall has not been changed.
Garden and Restaurant.
The palace has a large and beautiful garden. It is more like a park. It was designed by Charles Tays with an unmistakable French style.
Entrance to the park and palace is free, but to view the art collection of the Museo Superior de Bellas Artes EVITA, an entrance fee of 10 pesos applies. I will discuss the art collection in another blog.
There is a restaurant on the premises where you can have a meal and something to drink.
Impressive Art Collection in the Palacio Ferreyra.
Palacio Ferreyra boasts an impressive art collection and is one of the best in the Cordoba Province. Here you can see the works of many famous Argentine painters and sculptors. It is a very elegant museum and you can spend a good two hours walking through all the halls and enjoying the art.
Photos of the inside of the Palace is not allowed apart from a panoramic view of the Entrance Hall. When I was inside the museum a group of school children arrived to practise their singing. The acoustics was unbelievable. I stood on the balcony for some time to listen to them. It was a very memorable moment.
