Don Mueang international Airport in Bangkok
Don Mueang Airport is one of two International Airports in Bangkok – the other is Suvarnabhumi International Airport. It is the main hub for budget domestic flights. Currently Air Asia, Nok Air, Orient Thai, Solar Air and P.C. Air fly in and out of Don Muang International Airport.
The airport is more than 90 years old and was originally used for the Royal Thai Air Force. I found this piece of information fascinating about the airport. In the middle of the two runways you will find an 18-hole golf course!
Schreckengast, who has worked on consulting projects at this airport, says one of the major problems is that the only taxiways were located at the end of the runways. “We recommended that they build an additional taxiway in the middle, from side to side, and they said ‘absolutely not, that will take out a green and one fairway.'” The airport and the course were originally an all-military operation, but have since opened up to commercial traffic. Security threats, however, have limited the public’s access to the greens.

The airport layout is very simple. There are two levels where you will find the departure hall on the second level. All check-in counters are here. The airport also has facilities for money exchange, VIP lounges, restaurants, shopping, restaurants, souvenirs and information desks.
The arrivals hall is on the first floor. On this level you will find transport services, fast food outlets, banks and money exchange. The airport bus between Suvarnbhumi airport and Don Mueang Airport also leaves from here.
How to get into the city from Don Mueang airport?
A taxi is the cheapest, fastest and hassle free. A charge of +- 350 Baht applies and a surcharge of 50 Baht. The airport is 24 kms from the city center. Travel time is anything between 30 minutes and 1 hour depending on the traffic.
Bus 29 leaves from the Siam area and costs around 20 Baht. Travel time could take anything between 1 and 2 hours depending on the traffic.
Right opposite the airport building is a train that goes to Hua Lamphong (Central Railway Station), located near Bangkok’s Chinatown. Trains are not very frequent and leaves every hour or so. They operate between 06:00 and 20:00. They are also very busy because they are on the main line to Chiang Mai.
