Chao Phraya River cruises in Bangkok.

Bangkok is a very busy city and traffic murder, especially if you are making your way around the tourist attractions. If you want to avoid some of the traffic, relax and enjoy seeing sites from both sides of the waterways then a boat cruise on the Chao Phraya River is what you are looking for. It is a very dirty river so don`t expect too much but it is a wonderful way to see Bangkok from a different angle. The best time to go is early morning or at sunset.

In 2006 when I visited Bangkok I used the water taxis on a couple of occasions. It is very cheap and you get to experience Bangkok in a unique way. My dad booked a table for us on one of the many luxury boats that take tourists on an evening cruises. They offer live entertainment and we sipped on cocktails while admiring Bangkok city in the evening light. The temples and buildings are beautiful in the evening!

There are various ways to explore the waterways. Like I mentioned earlier, water taxi`s are available, long tail boats, rice boats, tourist boats and luxury tourist boats with evening entertainment. Some people have mentioned that the water is smelly. I am sure it is but I haven`t smelled anything. Mind you, I haven`t been close enough to really smell it.

I recommend this for people who have limited time in Bangkok and want to see more of this vibrant city.
